If you like to take concrete actions to support causes, there's something you can do today to help women succeed: join Kiva, and fund micro-loans to help women grow businesses, bring much-needed community support programs to their communities, or make lives more sustainable for them and their families.
I've been a Kiva member since 2013, and here are some of my stats:
- I've helped fund 242 loans
- I've lent to 34 different countries and territories
- I've helped women fund agriculture, bakeries, convenience stores, grocery stores, computer services, and other much-needed services in their local communities
- I have lent almost exclusively to women, because as a woman, my goal with these micro-loans has been to help lift women up
When funds are repaid, you can re-lend them to keep the cycle going. So you can start with a small contribution and grow your impact over time. I usually re-lend when I've got $50-100 in repayments accumulated in my account, and I add another $50-100 of my own, which grows the impact I can have year-over-year without being unsustainable for me.
I'll throw a link in the comments to a special Kiva is running today - support a woman and get an extra $20 to lend.
